The acronym "SPG" stands for Shot, Penalty, Goal.
The point of playing the SPG game is to predict which player(s) on an NHL team will record the first shot, penalty, and goal of each period (including overtime and the shootout) in a game. You receive one point for each correct prediction, even if you predict that something will not happen.
The game was invented by the Pension Plan Puppets Leafs blog site administrator who used to have to compile the data manually.
